I am the Zwan Postdoctoral Fellow at the Baker Institute for Public Policy at Rice University.

My research focuses on religious authority in the Middle East. Drawing insights from scholarship on nation-building, I examine the intersection of religious and national identities in the Arab monarchies. My findings emphasize implications for combatting violent extremism.

I have done extensive fieldwork in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen.
